Three network profiles
The firewall in Windows Security distinguishes three network profiles: a domain network (typically a corporate one), a private network (for example at home) and a public network (a café, hotel, airport). The firewall settings are managed separately for each profile.
The strictest rules should apply to a public network, because there you trust nobody. That is why it is important to keep the firewall on for all profiles.
How to check the firewall
- Open the Windows Security app (search for it in the Start menu).
- Choose Firewall & network protection.
- For every profile (domain, private, public network) check that the firewall is on.
What if someone turned it off
The firewall can be turned off by another program, an administrator or by a user by mistake. BirdGuard alerts you to a disabled firewall and, after your approval, can turn it back on. You can undo the change at any time.
