What a restore point is for
A restore point is a snapshot of important system files and settings. When something stops working after installing a program or tweaking the system, you can return to that state. It is not a backup of personal files; it cannot restore those.
How to turn it on and create one
The steps may differ between Windows 11 versions:
- Type “Create a restore point” into search and open System Properties.
- On the System Protection tab select drive C: and choose Configure.
- Turn on system protection and reserve a few percent of the disk.
- Choose Create, name the point (for example “Before installation”) and confirm.
When it pays off
Before installing a program that changes the system, before tweaking settings or drivers and before a major update. It is quick and saves a lot of trouble.
How this relates to BirdGuard
BirdGuard changes the system during installation and uninstalling reverts the changes, but we still recommend creating a restore point beforehand. Fixes in the app have their own Undo button.
